The Pannonian Philharmonic was founded in 1990 by Alois J. Hochstrasser, who also acts as its principal conductor and director. It consists of musicians of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as assistant musicians and scolarship owners from all over Europe.
The orchestra gives concerts both in Graz, Budapest, Vienna and smaller cities around the pannonian area, and reaches an audience of about 8000 per year. Since 1997 the orchestra has been performing at the festival „International Summer-Philharmonic Leoben“ (Now called „What a wonderful Europe“) in upper-Styria, at the „Güssinger Kultursommer“ and at the „Klangraum Krems“. The Pannonian Philharmonic performed regularly at numerous symphonic and choir-symphonic guest-concerts and recordings (for radio, records, CDs, DVDs) both at home and abroad.
The Ensemble has made it its mission to strengthen and demonstrate the european spirit and the historically rooted unity of the pannonian area.
The high musical quality of today is the result of years of intense work and friendship between the orchestra and its conductor. That is why the society offers an outstanding large repertoire beginning with the Epoque of the late Baroque till today, also including opera and filmmusic. During the last years the orchestra has performed several world-premiers (such as „Chinese Seasons“ by Enjott Schneider (DE), Concert for Saxophone by Robert Kamplet (SL), and „What a wonderful Europe - Festivalsound“ by Franz Cibulka (AT)).
Together with the musicians the principal conductor strives for playing vivid music, which touches the soul.
